Sometimes transformation begins with finances and reaches far beyond money.
Following the completion of an I Was Hungry training in Malawi, two participants faced a conflict that had divided their families for generations. The relatives had stopped speaking because of longstanding family disagreements. Even intervention from a local chief and a judge had been unable to bring reconciliation.
During the training, however, a biblical lesson prompted them to seek counseling from the program’s Director of Training. The two repented, forgave one another, reconciled, and began speaking again.
That spirit of transformation soon spread to the rest of the group.
When participants learned about a single mother whose three children were regularly left without food, water, or basic care while she searched for a way to provide for them and avoid her creditors, they decided to act. Together, the class collected clothing, blankets, food, and cash for the family.
When the mother arrived to receive the gifts, she wept and thanked the Lord for the generosity she had been shown.
Through I Was Hungry, participants are learning principles that can change the way they steward their resources—but in this village, the impact went even deeper. Biblical truth helped restore a relationship, inspire generosity, and demonstrate what it looks like to care for one another in practical ways.
