It is important to know where you’ve been, so you can know where you’re going. Reflecting on your past, recognizing positive and negative influences in your personal story, and understanding how it affects your present position in God’s bigger story gives one power to overcome life’s obstacles.

In 2 Kings 4, we are introduced to a widow, confronted with the dilemma of losing her children because of her deceased husband’s debt. She calls on the prophet Elisha, who asks her, “What do you have?” (v2). The widow replies that she has nothing before realizing that she has one jar of oil. Too often, our mindset is one of scarcity, believing that we don’t have anything of significance. But our God is a God of abundance, and He provides for us in ways seen and unseen.

Once you realize what you have, it’s time to understand who it belongs to. God tells us throughout Scripture that everything is His. Money, time, land, power, everything belongs to our Father in Heaven. If you know who owns your resources, the way in which you use them will be transformed.
