Working From Home

Making money from home means living the dream, right? Well, yes and no.

The flexibility and autonomy of working from home is great when you have clear boundaries and personal discipline. Without structure and boundaries, it can be a nightmare.

Most people are so excited by the idea of remote work, they don’t take the time to learn how to work from home successfully. The key is intentionality in several areas.

First, wake up and prepare for work as if you were going to the office. Establish a morning routine so that no matter where you’re working, you’re in a professional, focused state of mind.

Set boundaries and expectations for yourself and your family so they can help you be successful at home and at work. Don’t do anything at home that you wouldn’t do at the office.

When work hours are over, shut down your computer and honor your personal commitments. Your family will learn to respect your boundaries when they see that you’re there for them the rest of the time.

Keep your workspace tidy. Clutter is distracting, increases stress levels, and causes you to lose countless hours searching for documents and materials needed for work. Create your ideal work environment then optimize your space for ultimate productivity.

Notice your habits for a few weeks. Do you need breaks to refresh your mind? Schedule them. Does background music enhance your productivity? How about fresh air, a walk, or some time away from all screens? Self-awareness can help you develop an efficient and enjoyable work environment.

Paul told us, “Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” Approach each day with integrity, and trust that God will provide. Then, use your opportunity to work from home to show your boss, co-workers, friends, and family how Christians truly live out their faith.
