Work With All Your Heart

Are you working with all your heart?

In Colossians 3:23, the Apostle Paul wrote, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” Because a large part of your time is spent at work, it’s important to be highly motivated on the job. If you’re miserable or looking for other employment, here are some tips to help you deal with conflict and transition. First, all of your skills, talents, and promotions come from the Lord. So trust Him to be in charge of your career. “… it is God who judges: He brings one down, he exalts another” (Psalm 75:7).

Next, work as if God were your boss – because He is! Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.” Third, honor your employer. You may not like or agree with him or her, but some of the greatest spiritual leaders in the Bible served corrupt, immoral masters.

And if you don’t like your job and are under a lot of stress, develop a program that includes exercise, a healthy diet, plenty of sleep, and rest. Never focus solely on the money. Focus on doing the task and being great at what you do. If you can specialize in something that is in demand you will always have open doors of opportunity. The money will follow if you’re faithful, diligent, and excellent. Increase your value by becoming a continual learner in your field, and wherever you are, work as unto the Lord!
