Work Can Be Fun

Do you put pumpkins on your porch?

A Richmond business came about after one of the founders was laid off. She’d seen similar services in other cities and decided to try it in hers. Patch to Porch brings in locally-sourced pumpkins to decorate for fall and Thanksgiving. They have fixed prices to set up, decorate, and remove what they bring in. Prices range from $300 and up, depending on the package. Rebecca, nicknamed “Pumpkin-in-Chief,” told a reporter for Axios that she’s tapped into a market for people who are too busy to do it themselves. She and her business partner buy local pumpkins to support Richmond-area agriculture. Then, at the end of the season, composting facilities and local farms get the pumpkins, straw, and organic materials. These women found a niche that celebrates the season, blesses families, and helps their community.

Work is an essential part of God’s design for us from the very beginning. It’s one of the primary ways we experience purpose, meaning, and joy. It allows for self-expression, the potential to serve great needs, and to bring glory to God. Work reflects the truths that we believe to a watching world. It’s an opportunity to share God’s goodness, whether working at home, on an assembly line, in the corporate world, or on the mission field. Excellent work gets noticed, and when someone’s doing what they love, it doesn’t feel like work.

Excellence demands that we fine-tune our skills and stay current with the times. This might require classes or online certifications. It might even be decorating with pumpkins, and if you’re struggling today, check out our budget coaching program. Just go to crown.org and click “Get Help Now”. You can start today at crown.org.
