Why Generosity Is Good For Your Finances
Have you ever thought about how everything God created gives? The sun, the moon, the stars, the trees, the soil, the seas – they all give!
The motivation for believers to give flows from Christ’s generosity:
2 Corinthians 8:9 tells us… though He was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by His poverty might become rich.
Our cheerful giving affirms Christ’s Lordship and releases us from the grip of materialism. See, we don’t have the right to use money however we desire because life, for Christians, is about walking in God’s will. We’re to wisely use His money to provide for our family, support the church and to help the poor.
Money reveals what rules our heart. In giving, we become a pipeline for the grace of God to flow through us to others. We encourage the body of Christ by giving: both in blessing the receiver and as an example to others.
Solomon said,
Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce.
Proverbs 3:9
As soon as we receive income, we should set aside the amount we’ve decided to give. This will eventually become a lifelong habit that helps us to keep Christ first in all we do. Plus, it defeats the temptation to spend that money on ourselves.
Since our God is generous, all that He made is generous, we grow more into His image when we give. Start today. Make giving your top financial priority!
