We’ll Leave it All Behind

I remember a story written by the chief accountant for John D. Rockefeller – one of the wealthiest men who ever lived. When asked how much his client, Mr. Rockefeller, left behind after his death, he replied, “everything”.

Like Rockefeller, you, too, will leave everything behind. No matter how much or how little you have, you can’t take it with you. In 1 Timothy 6:7, Paul said, “For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either.” Your stuff doesn’t matter in eternity. What does matter is how you use the time, money and possessions that God has given you.

We’re told in Psalm 24:1: The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it”. Once you understand and believe that God owns everything, it’s important to manage all you have according to His principles. In fact, the first step to faithful stewardship is to know what God says about money. How you manage money determines how you will manage greater things.

He not only owns our stuff…He owns you and me! Our lives are a reflection of whether we believe that or not. If we truly believe that we are His, then we’ll honor Him with our obedience. Why? Because we know that the standards He set are ultimately for our good and His glory!

When we renew our minds with Biblical financial truths, we fulfill what God desires in a wise and faithful steward.

That’s why it’s so important to remember Psalm 90:12 – “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.”
