Use a Budget – Part 1
Are you a planner or a reactor?
Sound financial management is an aspect of the Christian life that requires God’s wisdom. We must rely on His Word to make financial decisions for the duration of our lives, which impact our eternal future. I’ve met many people who want a structured approach but can’t seem to get there or stay there. Here are three tips: put in the time to plan, write out your plan, then faithfully implement it. Planning takes time, but it’s essential. God’s an orderly provider and expects us, His stewards, to be the same.
Set aside a weekend for you and your spouse (if you’re married) to discuss your goals and put a plan together. Or, set aside an hour per week when you’re relaxed and able to focus. A written plan provides goals to work toward and helps measure progress. It helps you stay on track by referring to your original objectives. You’ll analyze priorities and develop effective habits. Working as a team, you can encourage and motivate one another. Your mindset and behavior will change as you strive to manage money God’s way. As Ron Blue said, “Goals tie our habits to our hearts.” A budget shows how much you can spend based on what you allocate to different categories. Besides getting your finances under control, it helps you achieve larger goals. A wise financial plan will accelerate you towards achieving your life purpose, not simply paying the bills and having money for the future. Crown’s website has tools to get you started.
And if you’re burdened with excessive credit card debt, let Christian Credit Counselors help. They can create a debt management plan to escape the pain that you’re in. Why not give it a try? Just go online to crown.org/ccc.
