Trusting God to Provide
The world tells us we don’t have to trust God to provide. We can simply borrow money or use a credit card for what we need. But, what if he wants us to make a sacrifice?
God calls each of us to a radical lifestyle – a total commitment to Him. A person’s spiritual commitment is determined by what he or she treasures. It doesn’t just mean learning to live on a budget and tithe to the Lord. It’s so much more.
Sometimes commitments are challenged when a sacrifice is required because we have to believe that God can provide.
One of the greatest illustrations of this is when God tested Abraham: Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering…
Abraham obeyed. When they arrived, Isaac asked … where is the lamb for a burnt offering? Abraham confidently replied, God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.
And, God did! As Abraham took the knife to do the unthinkable, he heard:
Abraham, Abraham! Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me. And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. So, Abraham called the name of that place, The Lord will provide.
Our tests may not be as dramatic as this, but we can trust the Lord to provide. Yes, even or especially with money!
