Throwing Away Trophies

This is a true story – I got home from work one day to find the majority of my sons’ sports trophies outside in a pile by the garbage! My wife had actually thrown them out because she found no value in keeping them since our grown sons said they really did not want them either.

Those trophies probably meant more to me than anyone else in the family and I would not have been able to throw them away.

But Ann has no emotional attachments to things which helps us both to keep an eternal perspective. Our real rewards are in heaven, not here on Earth.

Second Corinthians tells us to…fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with keeping important memories like trophies, as long as they’re not preventing you from storing up what really matters.
