The Example Of The Ant

It’s Crazy Money Day, and our lesson today comes from…the ant.

Did you know the Bible commends certain creatures? We’re even told to consider one – the tiny little ant.

They carry objects fifty times their body weight. Some use their heads to plug holes and block intruders. Some build super colonies that stretch thousands of miles. They’re fascinating! 

In Proverbs 6 we’re actually commanded:

“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!

It has no commander, no overseer or ruler,

yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.” (Proverbs 6:6-7)

Perhaps you feel that the little money you earn won’t make a difference. Well that’s wrong! Over time, a little plus a little adds up to big. It’s the consistent habit of diligent saving and investing that counts. 

You may have goals that seem too big to achieve. Maybe you’re discouraged with setbacks. Well don’t give up. Get organized, work hard and carry your load like the ant. Save for the future. Don’t get sidetracked by things of this world. Keep an eternal perspective and work hard while you can.

A warning follows the verses on ants. It says:

“How long will you lie there, you sluggard?

    When will you get up from your sleep?

A little sleep, a little slumber,

    a little folding of the hands to rest—

and poverty comes on you like a thief

    and scarcity like an armed man.” (Proverbs 6:9-11)

Simply said, work like the ant and save for the future. That’s your crazy money tip!
