Technology enables global missions from home!

Judith Risa and her husband came from Africa to the U.S. to attend college. They refused to forget the suffering and opportunities back home. Today, she’s the founder and CEO of a not-for-profit called Empowering Nations, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. 

Since 2011, they’ve been building on the vision to develop leaders and empower families. Judith says, “There’s no reason for the level of poverty and suffering in Africa. I believe that if leaders do the right thing, especially in Africa, with the resources they already have, the young population can bring about change. We give out small business loans, equipping someone with a business that can feed their people. Africans are the most enterprising people, because if they can live for under a dollar a day, they must be creative!

We meet weekly online to teach leadership development, marriage, and spiritual formation. We’re working with about 18 different countries. I always tell people that Jesus did not call us to build big organizations, but to make disciples, and that’s our heart, and that’s why I’m excited about Crown. We started partnering with Crown in February of 2023, because you have the tools and ability to teach financial stewardship. A balanced gospel means we teach people how to work with money, to save for the future, and leave a legacy, to invest well, but also to generously give. The earlier we can teach them this, the better.”
