“Teach Us to Number Our Days”
Today is my birthday!
Each day is a gift. Numbering them changes how we live and steward what God has entrusted to us. Psalm 90:12 says, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” When we recognize that our time is limited, it brings clarity. We stop assuming we’ll always have “later” and start thinking about what matters today.
This perspective directly impacts our stewardship. First, it reshapes how we use our time. Instead of drifting through our days or filling them with distractions, we become more intentional. We prioritize relationships, meaningful work, and time with the Lord. These things carry lasting value. Second, it influences our financial decisions. When we understand that life is temporary, we’re less driven to accumulate endlessly and more motivated to use money wisely. Giving, saving, and investing take on greater purpose when seen in light of eternity and the legacy we’ll leave behind. It also deepens our sense of responsibility. Every opportunity, resource, and relationship becomes something to steward, not something to take for granted.
Numbering our days doesn’t lead to fear – it leads to focus. It frees us from wasting time on what doesn’t matter and redirects our energy toward what does. It helps us live with urgency, but also with peace, knowing that faithfulness, not perfection, is what God desires. So join me in making the most of every opportunity.
And it would be a great gift to me if you join us in Knoxville, Tennessee, this September the 10th through the 12th. We’re celebrating all that God has done through Crown over the last 50 years, and you’re invited! Learn more at crown.org/50years.
