Stewarding Love Through Finances – Part 2
God is love.
God wants us to use what He provides, whether a lot or a little, to love Him and others. Yesterday we talked about stewarding love by meeting the needs of our family. You can also make a difference in the lives of others by financially loving your church. Plug into a local, Bible-believing, gospel-centered church and support its mission and programs. It’s in community that we see change happen. The Body of Christ, or the church, was created to strengthen one another as we serve others in love: The Apostle Paul told the Galatians, “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” (Galatians 6:10) He told the Corinthians, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7) John, the beloved disciple said, “If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” (1 John 3:17–18)
In addition, we’re called to love our neighbors in word, deed, and dollars: “For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'” (Galatians 5:14) We need the heart of God to extend kindness and generosity toward those trapped in darkness. Let’s do all we can to shed light and love until God calls us home.
