Social Media is Bad for Your Budget

Do you waste time on social media?

Wallet Hub reports that the average person spends nearly 2 ½ hours per day on social media. It introduces us to the latest trends and impacts how we spend money. They conducted an online survey and found the following: 4 out of 5 Americans say they would spend less money if they deleted their social media accounts. Less scrolling means less spending. Would you agree? Nearly 1 in 5 Americans describe their social media purchases as scams. Have you ever been the victim of one? A majority of buyers regret purchases made through social media. That’s called buyer’s remorse. Have you experienced it? Half of Americans think social media is bad for their budget. Do you?

Social media platforms are designed to be addictive. No wonder so many people spend hours scrolling on newsfeeds or checking for notifications. It’s easily accessible and a form of procrastination that prevents what really needs to be done. The solution is to set clear boundaries. Limit how much time is spent on social media per day. Set a timer to help you. Put your phone, tablet, or computer away when you’re at home. Out of sight means out of mind. Substitute a screen with a book, a person, or exercise. Get outside more often. Jesus was asked, “What’s the greatest commandment?” He replied, “Love the Lord your God with all of your heart and with all of your soul and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37) Make God your greatest priority, and the things of this earth will grow strangely dim!
