Savings Day – Patience

Trying to improve your savings this year?

It’s been said that “Money grows on the tree of patience.” Patience is a fruit of the spirit that comes through abiding in Christ. It’s not a natural characteristic of our flesh. We’re naturally impatient! Just observe toddlers or teenagers for a while! But God is patient and wants us to be as well. Financial patience requires discipline. It’s about working and waiting, watching, and willing. Here’s what that looks like:

We ignore the things of this world and live according to God’s ways. We keep an eternal perspective operating as ambassadors for the Kingdom. We remember that this is not our home. We delay gratification so we can cover our needs. We don’t make fast or risky financial decisions. Rather, we seek the Lord first and “find safety in many counselors.” We work, budget, record our spending, set reasonable restraints, give, and save. We adopt biblical priorities, break free from the love of money, and set a reasonable standard of living. We avoid coveting by being grateful and content with what we have. We avoid unnecessary debt by choosing to live simply. This allows us to give generously.

Now if you’re struggling financially, don’t panic. Plant your tree of patience. Begin by trusting your Provider. He’s the One through whom you can do all things. You’ll be surprised at the money you find to build your savings. Take it a day at a time and work with patience.
