Satisfied in Christ
Who influences what you eat or drink, where you shop, or how you spend your money? Whether or not you realize it, others may be determining your spending habits!
Many Americans have become trapped in lifestyles they cannot afford. “Keeping up with the Joneses” has led to a lot of stress, debt, and worry.
And Christians have become trapped in this cycle as well, instead of living in hope and joy. But we must choose to live contrary to the world. If you’re a Christian, then, according to the Apostle Paul, “At one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true.”
We’re to “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than ourselves.” We’re called to remain “steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord….knowing that in the Lord our labor is not in vain” And, we’re not to “become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.”
We control the desires we have by “Delighting ‘ourselves’ in the Lord” knowing “he will give ‘us’ the desires of ‘our’ heart.”
By filling up on the beautiful truths and wisdom of the Lord, we become satisfied in Christ and grateful for all He has done for us. Living in gratitude brings contentment. And, when we get to that point, we are no longer slaves to the temporary things of this world. We gain an eternal perspective and can say “No” to things that we can’t afford, and “Yes” to saving and giving.
