Rights Are Privileges

Craig D. Lounsbrough wisely says,  “Rights’ are ‘privileges,’ and if I am arrogant enough to demand the former without respecting the latter I will lose both.”

Tomorrow, Americans will unite to celebrate the 4th of July.  The freedom and rights we take for granted came at great cost.

We are living in a day and age where some of those rights are being threatened.  Paul said in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5:

…though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

When we align our thoughts with God’s we realize that true freedom is only found in Him. In 1911, William Merrill wrote the hymn “Rise Up, O Men of God”. May the words inspire you to steward your life for God.

Rise up, O men of God!

Have done with lesser things. Give heart and mind and soul and strength

to serve the King of kings.

Rise up, O men of God!

The kingdom tarries long.

Bring in the day of brotherhood

and end the night of wrong.

Rise up, O men of God!

The church for you doth wait,

her strength unequal to her task;

rise up, and make her great!

Lift high the cross of Christ!

Tread where his feet have trod.

As brothers of the Son of Man,

rise up, O men of God!
