Reflecting Values in Business
I like working with Christian businesses.
What makes a business “Christian?” Is it a Bible verse on the website or a fish symbol on its advertisements? A truly Christian business should be defined less by its label and more by the biblical principles demonstrated through its actions. Colossians 3:17 says, “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus.” That impacts how a business sees people, handles money, pays suppliers, resolves conflicts, and conducts itself when no one is watching.
A Christian business operates with honesty and integrity. It provides quality products and services at fair prices. Employees aren’t simply viewed as expenses or tools for generating profit, but as people created in the image of God. A healthy business must earn money, but profit should never become more important than obedience to the Lord.
Christian business owners should recognize that they’re stewards, not owners. Everything they have belongs to the Lord: their abilities, opportunities, employees, customers, and resources. Calling a company “Christian” carries responsibility. The strongest testimony isn’t the Scripture hanging on the office wall. It’s conducting business in such a way that customers, employees, competitors, and suppliers experience honesty, excellence, generosity, and genuine care. A Christian business is one where Christ is honored not only in what the owner says, but in how the business operates.
