Recession-Proof Your Job
Are you worried about losing your job?
Many economists believe we are headed towards major changes in our economy. Here are a few reasons: Jobless claims are at an 8-month high as layoffs increase. You’ve probably read about recent high-profile layoffs. Our nation’s GDP dropped 1.6% in the 1st quarter of the year, 0.9% in the 2nd quarter. 78% of Americans are worried about losing their job and a majority of American workers say they’re not financially prepared or they don’t know how to prepare for a recession.
Well, now is the time to recession-proof your career. It’s a great opportunity to improve your skills and learn new ones. Employers appreciate soft skills like communication, leadership, and teamwork. Project management is valuable alongside specific occupation training, computer skills, coding, AI, and machine learning. The use of social media, videography and building logistic websites is growing. Ask your boss what training would further your career. There may be some internal opportunities. Consider the many valuable options available through YouTube, TED Talks, virtual lectures, and workshops. Source new ideas through LinkedIn profiles of successful people in your industry. Coursera offers short courses that can be done on a mobile device. Never worry. Pray with thanksgiving, present your job requests to God and be proactive.
