Psalm 119 – A Financial Tool

Where do you turn for financial guidance?

Psalm 119, the longest chapter in the Bible, celebrates the gift and value of God’s Word. The psalmist repeatedly describes it as a guide, counselor, source of wisdom, and path to freedom. That’s important when it comes to money. We often make financial decisions based on emotion or cultural norms. Sometimes we act on what feels good and right in the moment. But Psalm 119 reminds us that God’s Word gives understanding, brings light, and keeps us from going astray. It teaches patience in a culture of instant gratification and contentment in a world driven by comparison.

Just knowing God’s Word isn’t enough. We must walk in it, treasure it, and apply it daily. That includes how we earn, give, save, spend, and invest. So, I ask you: When you face financial decisions, do you ask yourself, “What does God’s Word say?” Or do you only ask, “What can I afford?” Verse 68 says, “God, You are good and do good; teach me your decrees.” You see, financial peace comes from being willing to learn His ways and apply them faithfully. If God’s truly good, then His guidance about living within our means, avoiding unnecessary debt, giving generously, and planning wisely isn’t meant to restrict us. It’s meant to protect us. Are you inviting God to teach you about your finances, or are you asking Him to bless decisions that you’ve already made?
