Principles for Financial Success

Everyone wants financial success.

From a biblical perspective, financial success isn’t how much you have. It’s how faithfully you manage what God entrusts to you. A few simple principles can help you on your way. First, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” (Colossians 3:23) If you have the ability to work, do it well to bring glory to Him. Then, give a portion off the top of your paycheck. You’ve been entrusted with that money. Proverbs 3:9 tells us, “Honor the Lord with your wealth.” Consistently put money away toward an emergency fund and your future needs. We don’t save out of fear. We save because it’s wise stewardship.

Proverbs 6 tells us to go to the ant, consider its ways, and become wise! It stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. Live below your means by spending less than you earn. Avoid lifestyle inflation with giving, saving, and investment goals. Creating margin grants peace, flexibility, and opportunity. Sounds simple, but it requires discipline. Limit your debt. Proverbs 22:7 says, “The borrower is servant to the lender.” Financial freedom grows when debt shrinks.

True financial success is characterized by living open-handedly. Following Biblical financial principles breaks the grip of materialism in our lives and reminds us that money is a tool, not a master. Wise decisions made over time keep us focused on God’s kingdom, not our own.
