Planning a Wedding – Part 2

Are you planning a frugal wedding?

My wife and I were married long before cell phones, Instagram, and Pinterest. We had a simple wedding, and our first apartment was furnished with used furniture, but we were happy! If you’re planning a wedding, I’ve got a few tips to help you stay within budget. First, and most important, pray fervently. Separately and together, as a couple, ask God for wisdom, provision, and joy in the planning. Prioritize what’s really important. Ask a wise, older couple to walk alongside you for needed guidance. Seek sound marriage counseling that prepares you to think beyond the wedding day. Biblical financial training will help you set some realistic financial goals and plan to achieve them.

Here’s more: When it comes to a wedding dress, you can borrow, rent, buy used, or on sale. How about making your own veil? Flowers can be ordered through Costco, Wal-Mart, or Trader Joe’s. Ferns and garden plants can be used beyond the wedding day. Get creative to generously feed your guests. Consider a brunch, dessert buffet, or picnic theme. Recruit friends for your music and photography. Listen to ideas from those with experience in catering, flower arranging, and decorating. Be on the lookout for appropriate items you can afford. There’ll be plenty of other expenses, but by planning wisely, you can have a beautiful on-budget wedding. Churches should encourage ceremonies on their property and offer financial training. This enables couples to save money, start their marriages on a firm foundation, and ultimately serve the congregation.

Now, if you’re burdened with credit card debt, Christian Credit Counselors can help. They’ll create a debt management plan that will work for you. For more information, visit online at crown.org/ccc.
