Pay Off that Debt!
People used to fear debt.
In generations past, failure to repay a loan could land a debtor in prison. Fear of owing money changed with the advent of credit cards. We’ve shifted from the acceptance of debt to virtual dependence upon it. Once dependence becomes a way of life in a society, excessive borrowing is difficult to avoid. Unfortunately, debt borrows from our tomorrows to pay for our todays. When we choose to presume upon the future rather than waiting upon the Lord, we interrupt His ways of providing for our needs. While borrowing is not a sin, it is a sin to borrow and not repay.
Many shoppers rack up debt during Christmas, and that comes with a cost. The interest cost for consumer credit is very expensive. You can avoid it by using cash or paying off credit cards every month. There are emotional costs as well. Soldiers on active duty often rank financial stress greater than combat stress! Excessive debt has relational costs in ruined reputations, partnerships, business opportunities, friendships, and marriages, and the spiritual costs can inhibit the freedom to follow God’s will. We miss opportunities to serve Him when we have two masters. The Bible warns that “the borrower is a slave to the lender.” (Proverbs 22:7) Break out of financial prison with a plan to get debt-free. Crown’s website has articles, resources, and tools with strategies to help you eliminate consumer debt.
