New Year’s Resolutions

Do you want to handle money better next year?

Many of you probably made New Year’s resolutions related to money. Where are you starting? Ann and I began twenty-one years ago in a Crown Bible study. I thought I had it all together. After all, my dad was a businessman and I had studied business in college. I knew a lot about money. Several weeks into the study, I realized that money and success had become my idols. Once I discovered what God’s Word says about finances it changed my life forever. First, I came to understand that God, our Creator, owns everything. He’s our Provider and He entrusts us with resources to manage on His behalf. I learned that it’s not just ordering your finances in such a way that you can spend whatever you want; it’s actually ordering your life in such a way that God can spend you however He wants. That idea was revolutionary to me, and maybe it challenges you. I hope it does.

If you’ve come to the point where you know that you’ve not been trustworthy, then just admit it. God will forgive you and equip you to live as He designs. You just have to be willing to believe that what He says is true so that you can apply His financial principles. Invite the Lord into your decisions by seeking His counsel. Ask for wisdom, patience, humility, and self-control as you accept your role as His steward. When you learn how to honor God with your finances you’ll find joy as you follow His will in giving, saving, and getting out of debt. May your New Year’s resolution change your life forever!

And on this final day of the year, I want to thank you for your support of Crown and this radio station. If you’ve been blessed, consider a year-end gift to this station and also to Crown at crown.org. Thank you so much!
