New Year’s Day – 2020 Vision

Happy New Year!

2020 is a term that doctors use for clear vision. Now I hope you clearly see what God can do in your finances this year.

I don’t know anyone starting this year with a desire for more debt, more financial pain, or stress.

In fact, recent surveys show that 1/3 of all New Year’s Resolutions involve setting a financial goal for the year.

Now I’d like to give you a clear vision for what can happen in your life in 2020.

Begin this month by tracking all your spending to ensure it’s less than all your expenses. Recording where all your money goes can seem daunting. Do your best to get an accurate view of how much you typically spend in a month and what you spend it on. It’s revealing!

Second, make all necessary adjustments to your lifestyle to be sure you have financial margin to achieve your goals.

Margin is spending less than you make. The more margin you have the better off you’ll be. Like Solomon said: “The wise man saves for the future, but the foolish man spends whatever he gets.” (Proverbs 21:20)

Now third, save $1,000 in an emergency account where you can immediately withdraw it without penalty. Begin to save a portion of your gross income through automatic deductions from your paycheck. This is money that you DO NOT spend except in the case of a true emergency.

Now once you’ve done that, pick a debt that you can pay off this year while giving regularly to the Lord.

It’s a simple vision, but at the end of this year, you’ll have less debt and more savings.
