Mine, Mine, Mine

‘Mine. Mine. Mine” Ever hear that at your house?

Our boys are older now, but those were some of their first … and favorite words.

Understanding that God owns everything – and that He grants us the privilege of enjoying His blessings – is a beautiful truth. It’s what motivates us to manage His resources well and honor Him in all we do.

David prayed, “Everything in the heavens and earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as being in control of everything.”

We have the awesome privilege of imparting this truth to our children.

From an early age, teach your children this by saying things like:

“You get to play with these toys and share them with your brother and sister! But they truly belong to God.”

“You get to eat delicious food and wear good shoes because God gave Daddy and Mommy the money to buy it for you.”

“We take good care of the things we use because they’re God’s and we share them with others, just like He’s shared them with us.”

Or teach them Psalm 24:1 that the Earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the people and all who dwell in it. Nothing is omitted from that list. All that we can see, feel, taste or touch belongs to God. Not just 10% but 100%. Teaching your children to have a thankful attitude and eternal perspective will make a lasting impact on their lives. It’ll help them in their relationships, careers, and finances.

Ask the Lord to bless your efforts as you teach your children. And, instead of “Mine. Mine. Mine.” may your home resound with praise that it’s all His.
