Managers Steward People
Are you struggling to respect your manager?
Sometimes managers are underqualified. Years ago, I read an article at Gallup entitled: Why Great Managers Are So Rare. It revealed that the most important decision an organization makes is who they put in management positions. The wrong people cost billions of dollars each year. Yet, only 1 out of 10 people possess the talent to manage well. They naturally engage and retain both workers and customers, while creating and sustaining a culture of high productivity. Great managers share common talents. They motivate employees with a compelling mission and vision. They drive outcomes and have the ability to overcome adversity and resistance. They naturally create a culture of clear accountability, building relationships that create trust, open dialogue, and full transparency. Productivity drives their decisions, not office politics.
Do you see these in yourself or in your manager? The Bible tells us to serve our masters wholeheartedly as unto the Lord. Sometimes we’re placed under poor management, but that can grow our character or even make a difference like Daniel or Joseph did in their challenging circumstances. Managers are responsible for wisely stewarding people. God will hold us accountable for how we handle people and resources. Would you want a boss who behaves like you? Is God pleased with your leadership and work ethic? Think a minute, then ask God to help you manage wisely or to better serve your current manager.
