Love and Money
People confuse love and money.
Our enemy has convinced the world that things will bring happiness. Yet, throughout Scripture, God warns us not to be led astray. He tells us to love God and others, to pursue love, and to guard ourselves. He tells us not to love the world or money, and that life does not consist in the abundance of our possessions. Preoccupation with things of this world gets us side-tracked. We lose sight of our final destination and the purpose for which God has us here. Billions of dollars dedicated to credit card debt confirms that we have confused our wants and needs. Divided hearts have divided priorities. These are evident in the way we handle money. That’s why we’re told in Hebrews 13:5, “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.'”
Debt brings stress and bondage. People are unable to live as God designed when they’re strapped with it. From credit cards to student loans, car loans, mortgages, and personal, and payday loans, many believers are prevented from saving and giving as God directs. The Apostle Paul said: “You will be enriched in every way to be generous on every occasion.” (2 Corinthians 9:11) This results in thanksgiving to God. You see giving is the foundation of a life lived in selfless devotion to others. It fulfills the second greatest commandment, to love our neighbors as ourselves. So, get your priorities straight. Choose to live God’s way so that you can experience true joy and purpose.
