Labor Day

Happy Labor Day!

Today’s holiday was created in 1894 to honor the men, women and children who served as the industrial foundation of our nation. In the midst of our festivities, let’s pause to remember the meaning of work and rest. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10) How well are we working unto Him? Think about these verses: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:23-24)

Are you serving Him with all your heart at your place of work? “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-7) Are you serving God with your gifts? This verse describes those working to repair the house of the Lord under the reign of Josiah. “And the men did the work faithfully.” (2 Chronicles 34:12) Are you serving your employer, staff, or clients faithfully? God created us to work for our good and the benefit of others. He also commanded a day of rest, calling it holy. This planned cycle of working and resting was God’s design and ultimately brings Him glory. So remember to rest today.

Many people don’t rest due to the stress of credit card debt. Our friends at Christian Credit Counselors want to help. They can create a debt management plan just for you. For more information call the Crown Helpline: 800-722-1976 or visit online at crown.org/ccc.
