Honesty Is Attractive
Honesty makes the Gospel attractive!
Titus 2:10 instructs believers “not to steal, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.” Well, that’s a powerful connection. Our honesty doesn’t just affect our reputation; it influences how others see the faith.
Financial pressure can tempt us to compromise. Maybe it’s taking something from work because “the company won’t miss it.” Or hiding income, exaggerating expenses, lying on applications, or keeping money mistakenly given to us. Sometimes it’s being less than truthful in business transactions. We can convince ourselves that the dollar amount is small or that everyone else does it, but faithful stewardship is about more than money. It’s about character. God owns everything, and He’s entrusted to us whatever He puts in our care. He wants us to manage money and possessions with complete integrity, even when dishonesty could benefit us financially, and no one else would ever know.
Luke 16:11 asks, “… if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?” Sometimes honesty will cost us. We may have to return money, admit a mistake, refuse a profitable opportunity, or walk away from a questionable deal, but no financial gain is worth sacrificing our witness or our fellowship with the Lord. Honesty makes the Gospel more attractive to others. So be completely honest in big decisions and small ones. The way you handle money says more about your faith than you realize.
