Helping the Poor
Ever been asked for money by a stranger?
Family illness, imprisonment, or unemployment can leave people desperate for food, clothing, or shelter. Check out their story to be sure you are not being scammed. Is the need legitimate? Do you have the capacity to meet the need?
When asked for financial help, God may prompt you to give, but if not, try to connect them with a church or agency that can help. Avoid giving cash which can be misused. Instead, pay a bill or buy food or assist with other pressing needs. You won’t understand why Jesus said: “It’s better to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35) until you do it. When we give to those who are hurting, we’re the ones most blessed.
