Help Yourself By Saving
Does saving make you feel deprived?
Saving is encouraged throughout the Bible for your protection, joy, and peace. The sooner you start, the sooner you benefit. Those who delay saving adopt lifestyles that set them back for years. Spending money becomes a habit, and bad habits are hard to break! So why not establish good ones! Learn to say “no” to the things you want today – so you can say “yes” to things you need tomorrow. It’s a matter of denying yourself something every day! Whether it’s something you want to eat, drink, watch, or do, discipline yourself and discover how it impacts your finances. Saving is easy if you don’t spend everything you make! Automate savings deposits to prevent the temptation to spend. Determine to put something aside on a regular basis. If you deposit $25 a week, you’ll save $1,300 in 1 year. $100 and you’ll reach $5,200!
Choose to live differently by reducing or capping your lifestyle. That may mean moving, selling your car, cooking at home, using the library, cutting cable and other subscriptions, or taking on extra work so you have money to deposit in a savings account, and despite what you think, you can save while giving and eliminating debt. Try it! Get rid of the mindset that you’re depriving yourself! Saving is an important step in good stewardship, one that will grant you peace and preparedness for days to come. Just remember Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
