Have You Surrendered Your Wallet?

Have you surrendered your wallet?

Our founder, Larry Burkett once said, “My greatest fear in life is standing before the Lord and hearing Him say, ‘I had so much more for you, but you held on too tightly.’” The lure of materialism prevents us from serving one another in love. Humility is our defense. Some of the wealthiest people I’ve met are humble stewards who joyfully and generously give to kingdom work. The prophet Micah said, He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” ( Micah 6:8) Managing money wisely frees us to “do good to all, especially those who are of the household of faith.” If you struggle with doing good, ask yourself, “Am I holding on too tightly?” Maybe you need to humble yourself and surrender your wallet to God.

If you have no financial margin, you may be living beyond your means. You likely have a low credit score. You’re not saving at least 5% of your paycheck. You have no emergency savings, and you use credit cards but don’t pay them off every month. Perhaps a high mortgage and car payments are causing you to run out of money before the end of the month. A wise steward has a financial plan. Begin recording every dollar you spend so you can establish a workable budget. Start paying down your debt and set saving goals. Adjust your lifestyle if you’re living beyond your means. Then, work as unto the Lord. If you surrender your wallet to develop financial goodness, you’ll soon be blessing others.

And as we begin this new year, I want to thank you for your support. If you’ve been blessed, please consider a regular monthly gift to this radio station and also to Crown at crown.org. Together, we’re spreading the good news for such a time as this.
