Giving – A Financial Priority
Do you prioritize giving?
God wants us to make giving a priority by giving our first and our best. It’s a matter of taking some of our gross income and putting it to work in God’s Kingdom. Before spending anything, He wants us to trust Him by giving some away. Giving to the Lord is the only time in scripture where God says, “test me.” Malachi 3:10 calls out the Israelites who were neglecting their obligation to provide for those who depended on tithes. The prophet said, “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”
Under the New Covenant, tithing is not compulsory. However, giving is. God wants us to remember the poor, to fund the work of the Church, and to spread the gospel throughout the world. Now, this is not a tax or a law. Rather, it’s God’s way of showing us what is best for us! It is more blessed to give than to receive. Rather than offering Him what’s left over at the end of the month, He wants us to come to Him at the beginning. In grateful appreciation for the way He provides, we can honor Him by prayerfully giving back. God knows our needs, and He will supply if we live according to His financial principles. Can we trust Him and make giving a priority? Ask Him to give you the faith to trust Him more. Then experience the joy of prioritizing your giving!
