Give Better – Part 1
Are you trying to become more generous?
Many sincere Christians struggle with giving because the “wants” in our lives eat away at the money we could give. As a result, we may think we can’t afford to give. Now, I like to say it this way: we’re all generous. The question is, who will we be generous toward? Ourselves or God?
Giving overcomes the control that the world has on our lives and demonstrates the degree of our love for Christ. You see, fear overrules if we become too earthly-minded. God wants us to trust Him – to depend on His provision, and perhaps, especially, if it defies logic. He sees the sacrifices we make, and He can provide in ways beyond understanding, causing us to respond in gratitude.
If you desire to become a better giver, consider the following biblical promise. “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: ‘They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.’ Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.” (2 Corinthians 9:8-10)
Now, God does not promise to make us rich on Earth like the false prosperity gospel teaches. He may reward us financially, or He may refresh us spiritually or emotionally. Sometimes, He gives in ways we don’t immediately recognize unless we look for it!
