Getting Enough Rest

Are you worn out?  Do you find it difficult to go to sleep with so much to do? And, so much on your mind?

God scheduled rest in our lives. He built-in a need for sleep every 24 hours and told us “…the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work…

An estimated 1/3 of Americans are sleep-deprived. It affects our emotional well-being, physical health, performance and safety on the job.

Tom Brady, Quarterback for the New England Patriots, sleeps 9 hours every night. It’s a priority for his health. Sleep gives his body the recovery time he needs to enhance his athletic performance. He goes to bed shortly after his children, aims to be asleep by 8:30 or 9:00 and up by 5:00 or 5:30. He loves his profession and wants to play for a long time. So, he’s intentional about getting rest!

Believers who work as unto the Lord and serve sacrificially grow weary. We fight battles raging in and around us and suffer physical, psychological and emotional fatigue. Add the stress over finances, and the need for rest is essential!

The bible references a time when Jesus instructed his disciples: “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.”

Like them, we must step out of the rat race, trust God to provide and rest in Him.

Isaiah said, “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”

So, turn off your electronics, make your bedroom dark, quiet and relaxing, set a sleep routine and start the New Year by trusting God and honoring the Sabbath by resting.

Stewarding your time is just as important as stewarding your money. Crown recently put together a brand new study all about stewardship, and the 5 stages of success. This video guide is a wonderful resource for individuals, families, and small groups, and I’d like to send it to you as a thank you when you make a generous donation of any amount.
