Get Out of the Ownership Trap
Do you belong to Christ? Then, you’re his steward.
We came into the world naked and will depart with nothing. It’s a truth that God wants us to put into practice. God gave you money in order to help you fulfill His purpose for your life. That’s why it’s important for you to manage money according to God’s financial principles. Being financially free makes you able to respond to God’s leading. Christ is the most valuable gift that you’ll ever possess. So, while you’re on this earth, use money to advance His kingdom and not to build your own.
Christ never said money or material things were problems. He said they were symptoms of the real problems. He constantly warned us to guard our hearts against greed, covetousness, ego, and pride, because those are tools that Satan uses to control and manipulate the world. Christ warned us more about materialism than He did any other sin. If we claim ownership of money and possessions, we become vulnerable to making them our identity. Why? Accumulating, protecting, maintaining, and growing assets can control us.
So here are three tips to get you out of the ownership trap.
1. Make a quitclaim deed that surrenders it all to Him. Record everything you think you own. Then, declare with your mind and heart that it all belongs to God.
2. Catch yourself and stop saying “mine.”
3. Learn to enjoy being a faithful steward.
Solomon said: “The earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein…” (Psalm 24:1) Thank you, Lord!
