Generosity in Uncertain Times

How do you deal with uncertainty?

In Acts chapter 11, a prophet named Agabus foretold a severe famine that would spread throughout the Roman world. It was troubling news. Food would become scarce. Economic hardship and uncertainty were on the horizon. Imagine how most people would respond. Many would tighten their grip on what they had. They’d stockpile resources, protect their own interests, and focus on their own security, but not everyone! Acts 11:29 says, “The disciples, as each one was able, decided to provide help for the brothers and sisters living in Judea.”

Rather than becoming consumed by fear, they responded with generosity. Rather than hoarding, they gave. Instead of focusing on their own needs, they asked how they could help others. Their confidence wasn’t placed in their resources. It was placed fully in Christ. That’s important for us to remember. Whether the concern is inflation, economic uncertainty, market volatility, or personal challenges, our first response should not be panic. It should be prayer. God may lead us to save. He may lead us to prepare. He may lead us to give. The key is being sensitive to His direction.

Stewardship isn’t simply following a formula. It’s faithfully managing God’s resources according to His leading. The disciples trusted God enough to obey even when difficult days were ahead. Let’s seek God’s wisdom, listen for His prompting, and move faithfully wherever He leads.
