Frugal February

Are you being frugal this month?

Frugal February was probably born out of too much spending in November, December, and January. It’s actually a lot of fun, so recruit friends or family to join you. Those who want to pay off debt, build savings, and work toward a specific goal can make a big impact with frugal spending. First, establish a budget and keep track of your spending. Try to cut all unnecessary expenses. If financial stress prevents you from reaching important goals, ask the Lord to give you discernment in decision-making. You may realize the need to pursue major lifestyle changes.

Meal planning and cooking from scratch can cut food costs dramatically. If new to this, invite an older friend or family member to teach you. Use what’s in your pantry and freezer. Cook extra to freeze and enjoy later. Get creative and consider hosting a Frugal Potluck! Don’t complain, but focus on the money you’re saving this month. By March, you’ll have established new habits that will help you continue saving.

In addition, cash in credit card rewards. Use gift cards for necessary purchases or gifts. Negotiate cell phone coverage, home, and car insurance. How many streaming services do you really need? Replace online and physical shopping with productive activity. When shopping is necessary, go with a shopping list. If you don’t need something today, chances are you won’t tomorrow! Take the Frugal February challenge one day at a time. A little self-discipline can help you wisely steward the money God provides!
