Four Reasons Not To Invest

Why do you invest?

I believe you should not invest if you have the wrong heart attitude. Consider the metaverse. People are scrambling to buy land. Hundreds of millions of dollars were spent on digital real estate last year. Yet, billionaire investor Mark Cuban, who’s a crypto enthusiast, says that buying virtual real estate is dumb! There are 4 reasons or factors, that if present, are reason enough not to invest.

The first is greed. “Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.” (1 Timothy 6:9) Greed is a reflection of our discontentment with what God has already provided. The next is pride. “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.” (1 Timothy 6:17) Investing to be elevated or esteemed will lead to more discontentment and does not further God’s purposes for your life. The third factor is ignorance. Investing without doing your research or seeking wise Godly counsel is simply foolish. “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” (Proverbs 15:22) Finally, envy. “For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.” (Psalm 73:3) Jealousy of other people’s success prevents contentment and gratitude for God’s blessings. So check your heart before investing – in the metaverse, the stock market, or anywhere!
