Finding the Best Career Fit

Is your child struggling trying to find a college major or career path that’s the perfect fit?

Solomon said, “Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.”

If you’re making a career choice or trying to guide your children, it’s so important to consider how a particular job will fit. Every person’s distinctively designed with particular gifts, talents, and a purpose. Those most happy and successful in life put those to use. The highest paying jobs, even those you may be good at, will never satisfy unless it’s work you enjoy – work where you can grow and find real purpose.

Knowing your child’s design and which careers fit that design does help them avoid unnecessary changes in their course of study or career.

A college degree does not determine financial success. Sure, the typical full-time wage earner with a bachelor’s degree earns about two-thirds more than someone with only a high school degree over their lifetime. But, that’s  not true In every case   And with the staggering amount of college debt, many people should look at other options. These may include community colleges or alternative certification programs, family businesses, internships or mentoring opportunities.

The key is to continually learn: encourage your child to read, listen to podcasts, talk with and shadow people in career fields that interest them. And most importantly, to understand their own design.

There are a number of personality or work related assessments out there. But the problem with many of those is that they’re not grounded in Scripture. They’re missing an integral piece of the puzzle, which is why Crown created Career Direct. It’s an assessment that looks at personality, values, interests, and skills to help your child understand how God created THEM.
