Find Work/Rest Balance
Are you getting enough rest?
One of my sons thought I was a workaholic until he had to support a family. He then ate those words! God gave Adam a job before sin entered the world. Work’s good for us – a blessing! Plus, whether at home or at an office, work grants opportunities to glorify God. Unfortunately, technology makes it easy to overwork. If we’re not careful, we’ll have nothing left to give our families or Savior. Finding balance between work and home life requires faith in God. If you truly believe God is in control, you should be able to rest in obedience to Him. This will keep you centered. After God created the earth and all that is in it, He rested. He blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it He rested from all the work that he had done in creation.
You too need rest. Take time daily for spiritual renewal. Spend time in prayer and the reading of God’s Word each day. Take breaks from your phone and computer. Ask your spouse to hold you accountable. Then, honor the Sabbath. Rest! Take a nap! Relax! Go outside and enjoy nature. Sleep boosts our immune system, restores and energizes. Most adults need 7-8 hours to function properly. Now I’ll confess, it’s hard for me to plan time away, but vacations are necessary – even a staycation. My work never ends, but my mind and body require that I take a break from working so that I can give my very best. So trust God and rest so you can give your very best!
