Find Joy – Even in Finances

I got married 43 years ago today!

Once pronounced man and wife, Ann and I practically skipped out of the sanctuary to the Christmas carol, Joy to the World, the Lord Has Come. Now Joy is what we should have in the midst of all our circumstances – even our finances! Things of this world might bring temporary happiness, but only God can bring lasting joy. To have joy in your finances, you need to know and follow Biblical financial principles. My wife and I find joy in giving. Once I submitted to God’s plan for our money, we were able to actually give cheerfully, like the scripture says.

Generosity actually brings us great joy. Though not our motivation, we often end up being the ones who are blessed! Joy is found in worship: praising God and thanking him for everything, even the trials and sorrow that you may experience this time of year. Re-examine your situation and see it through God’s eyes. Even the things we find difficult can be reframed when viewed through the lens of His love. They end up being blessings in disguise. The power we need to make wise financial choices is found in the essential joy of God. As Nehemiah said, “The joy of the Lord is your strength!” (Nehemiah 8:10) not your joy – but his. Now my hope is that you’ll rest in the strength of God, and seek Him to wisely steward what comes your way. May you seek to develop lifelong financial habits built on the firm foundation of Biblical principles. Joy to the World, the Lord has come!
