Financially Prepare Survivors

Are you financially ready for that day?

We’re gonna die no matter how good our genes, no matter how much we exercise, how healthy we eat, or how advanced medical care becomes, God has an exit plan for each one of us. We just don’t know when or how. So it’s wise to set your financial house in order now. My brother-in-law had terminal cancer and did everything he could to prepare his future widow. He got the house in tip-top shape. He showed her how to do as much on her own as possible: from changing HVAC filters to replacing sprinkler heads. He secured all access to the house, bought her a new car, and installed new garage door openers. Because she knew how to handle their finances, she didn’t fear her future when he passed.

Basic financial literacy is important, but believers must know what God says about money. It’s irresponsible to expect someone else to handle your affairs because you fail to prepare. Have life insurance that at least covers death and funeral costs. Have a will or trust. Provide passwords, bank access, and entry details to a safe or lockbox. Keep good records and make them easy to access. A spouse, child, parent, or trusted advisor must know how to locate your information for banking, insurance, debts, investments, and more. They should begin overseeing financial details when a terminal diagnosis is given. This will relieve future stress. Careful planning can help us weather storms that come our way. Believers know that our future is secured by the promises of the Lord. So let’s prepare the ones we’ll leave behind.
