Escape Credit Card Debt

Are you a financial hostage due to credit card debt?

Some people manage their entire budget around keeping their credit card balances paid down just enough to stay out of trouble. Carrying a large monthly balance on credit cards and paying only the minimum monthly amount creates a debt more expensive than a home mortgage! Now none of us would ever order pizza knowing we’d pay for it over the next 25 years…right? Imagine calling your bank saying, “I need to order a few pizzas this weekend for a football game we’re watching. It’ll cost about $40. Can I borrow the money and pay you back for the next 25 years at 16% interest?” Now that would be nonsense!

If you carry credit card balances, here’s what I want you to do: First, resolve to pay off your balances completely. The Debt Snowball and Avalanche Calculators at Crown.org will help you make a plan to do this. Second, stop adding to your monthly balance. Third, only use one credit card and pay off the entire balance every single month.  It’s the only wise way to use a credit card. Finally, save at least a thousand dollars for emergencies. This will help you break the cycle of paying down a little each month while watching the balance jump back up again. With some planning, self-control, and accountability you can escape this financial hostage situation. Now remember, financial freedom is not about ordering your finances in a way that you can spend whatever you want. It’s ordering your life in such a way that God can spend you however He wants.
