Drowning in Debt?
Are you drowning in debt and feeling hopeless?
I want to encourage you. It may take time, but you can begin recovering today by setting a goal of getting debt free. Make up your mind that you don’t want to live this way any longer, then follow a step-by-step plan. Working with people facing this same struggle, I’ve found that it takes about 5 to 7 years to become fully free. Changing your mindset and making lifestyle changes will make it possible. First, you must create a truly functional budget. Crown has some free tools to help you build a budget and organize your finances. You must have a clear picture of your real income and all your obligations. This step will identify the problems that need to be addressed. As much as I believe in getting debt free, I recommend that you begin to save $1,000 for true emergencies.
Now, consider taking on an extra job. Over the years, I’ve worked multiple jobs myself. You may not want to do this long term, but an extra job on weekends or evenings can provide income to more quickly reduce your debt. Whether you go to work for someone else or start your own business, extra income will ease your pain. Solomon said it this way in Ecclesiastes 11:6. “Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hand not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.” So don’t lose hope! You can do this, and we’re on your side!
