DIY Moving Tips
Are you moving this summer?
My wife and I have moved a lot, and if a move is on your horizon, I’ve got a few tips for you. Start decluttering now! You’ll have less to pack and move. Go through each room of your home and decide what to keep. Then sell, donate or trash the rest. Don’t forget the storage unit. One year, neighbors put everything they didn’t want to move in the front yard, and they told people just to come and take what they wanted. Now once you have a date in mind, schedule bids with moving companies or ‘do-it-yourself’ and rent a truck. Friends gave us their moving boxes. Then, we passed them on to others. You can reuse packing paper numerous times. We made store runs to collect boxes for all of our books. Buy or borrow a tape dispenser. Then, load up on tape, a supply of sharpies, bubble wrap and extra packing paper. Cook ahead and freeze some meals to avoid the cost of eating out. Accept the offers of friends who want to help. You’ll benefit by their generosity in serving you by babysitting, bringing food, packing, or taking loads to a donation center.
Moving is exciting, but it can be exhausting and stressful. So, plan time to celebrate and enjoy life in the midst of what seems chaotic. Remember: “Don’t be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
