Debt Collectors

1 in 4 Americans have at least one debt in collections.

If that’s you, here are some helpful tips. Debt collectors can only call you between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. unless told otherwise. They can’t harass you with repeated calls, threats, or abusive language. Law prohibits them from coming to your workplace to collect payments. You can ask them not to call you at work.

Verify the collection firm with the company you owe money. Legitimate collectors don’t ask for bank or credit card account numbers. Never give personal or financial information out over the phone. File all transactions. A great burden is lifted when making your last payment. It should motivate you to avoid debt in the future.
