Crazy Money! Worldly Wealth is Temporary

It’s Crazy Money Day!

Imagine the shock of seeing a brand-new yacht sink within minutes after being launched. It happened when a new 85-foot luxury cruiser was pushed into the ocean of a Turkish port. People watched in horror as it tilted to one side and took on water. Bystanders reported that when the million-dollar vessel began to sink, people on board were forced to dive into the sea. It’s crazy!

The Bible warns about the temporary nature of riches. Proverbs 23:4 and 5 says, “Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness. Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.” Or in this case, sink like a rock!

Downturns in the economy, unexpected emergencies, and unforeseen circumstances can wipe away financial security in a flash. That’s why exerting too much time and energy into acquiring wealth can create a false sense of security and lead to disappointment. God wants us to trust in Him, not material possessions. True security only comes through faith in Jesus Christ. Acknowledging Him as the owner of everything helps us keep a proper focus. It encourages us to wisely steward the resources he’s entrusted to us in order to honor Him and help others. So whether you have a canoe or a luxury liner, hold it loosely. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21)
